Snake Outta Compton (2018)

We can’t even begin to underestimate the impact N.W.A has had on social and political culture.

‘Fuck Tha Police’ alone is easily recognizable, having become a widespread anthem for racial injustice. It’s even had a resurgence in recent years, indicating the longevity of the message it puts forward.

The film Straight Outta Compton is a biographical approach to the group origins and worked closely with the members of N.W.A. throughout production.

The role of Ice Cube was even played by his own son!

This film tackles the sometimes discomforting, always fascinating rise of The World’s Most Dangerous Group and it knocks it out of the park!

This is a strange movie to cover.

It’s not just because it’s about an up-and-coming rap group that is the only hope against a snake mutated by an Urkel look alike.

It’s because this movie actually looks… not bad?

Okay, it’s definitely bad, but compared to the other films this week it looks amazing.

This film boasts some nice-looking special effects and CGI that actually look pretty good for what the budget probably was. Plus, the acting doesn’t look terrible and it’s shot pretty decently.

So, if you see this one in the bargain bin, maybe don’t be so quick to throw it aside. It has some potential!

Fun Fact:

It’s heavily implied that the titular snake was thrown from a plane by none other than Samuel L. Jackson.
