Did We just become best friends?
We are kicking off brothers week with an absolute banger. No disrespect to Talladega Nights or Homes and Watson, but this is by far our favorite of the Farrell - Riley team-ups.

Good morning consumers. This is please consume, the film newsletter that will never pay full price for Peacock.

Step Brothers (2008)

We are kicking off brothers week with an absolute banger.
No disrespect to Talladega Nights or Homes and Watson, but this is by far our favorite of the Farrell - Riley team-ups.
( okay, a little disrespect to Homes and Watson.)
How the hell are we going to be able to pick one scene from a movie that easily has ten unforgettable moments?
We can't please everyone.
So we are going to roll with our favorite. Hoping we don't get 1,000 replies to this email saying
“ You idiot that's not even close to the best scene!”

Directing

Is Adam Mckay an Ature?
I would argue that he is.
What he lacks in visual or technical style. He more than makes up for it with the way he directs his actors.
Giving them the space to let loose and improv.
Will Farrell said that nearly 50% of the movie was improved.
Most of the time when we think of Ature directors like Wes Anderson or Quentin Tarantino, they are in complete control. Every color you see and sound you hear is designed that way.
It’s nice to see directors letting the performers be in complete control.
Performance

Richard Jenkins is the unsung hero of this film.
I know I rambled about how quotable Will Farrell is one of the most quotable actors in history.
But Richard Jenkins is the one holding this whole thing together.
If he were to play it over the top like Farell and Riley, it wouldn't work. Instead, he plays it straight.
A severely disappointed father.
