Old Hollywood: Day 4

Happy New Year!

2023 is going to be a big year in film.

Dune part II, Oppenheimer, and mother effin Barbie!!

Sorry, I'm excited…

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though, we had a major release this week.

That being Damien Chazelle’s newest film, Babylon.

For this reason, we are going to take a step back into Old Hollywood.

I know what you're thinking, “Oh this is going to be so boring, a bunch of black-and-white pretentious bullshit”.

To that, I would say this….

You have clearly never opened an email from Please Consume. We kick pretentious in the teeth and tell him to shut the door on the way out.

These old films are more than just history.

They are fun as hell.

You know, it’s a real shame Gene Kelly had poor taste in projects. He made good movies, but he never could quite get the projects Fred Astaire was able to capture.

Don’t fret for Kelly, because Fred Astaire never made a masterpiece directed by Stanley Donen.

Hollywood has really lost its way with musicals.

In the last couple of years, we’ve seen somewhat of a resurgence with Lalaland, In the Heights, and Greatest Showman. However, none of them quite capture the beauty and majesty of a classic musical like today's clip.

A film so colorful it makes up for the first 20 years of the cinema having none.

A movie filled with incredible dancing it’ll make you want to buy tap shoes.

A picture with such joy and energy that just watching this scene will put a pep in your step.
