ROM-COM WEEK: Day 1

Love is in the air.

And for all you horny consumers, this is the week for you!

We’ll be taking a look at some of the best scenes in Rom-Com History.

This can be a touchy subject, as everyone has their favorites from the genre.

So, if you have a problem with any of our picks, just remember: this week is all about love, not hate!

Over this coming week, we want to discuss romantic relationships on the silver screen. For Day One, we’re highlighting pure chemistry, rat-a-tat dialogue, and the push and pull of characters’ relationships.

Sometimes, you watch a movie and realize every other movie in its genre is just riffing off what made that film original. “It Happened One Night” is that movie for the romantic comedy.

We literally can’t overstate the impact this film has had on popular culture. It essentially created the rom-com, got Clark Gable his first and only Oscar, and is even responsible for the myth that bunnies love carrots (we’re not joking, look it up).

This clip features a hallmark of early rom-coms and screwball comedies which we call “Bitter Flirting”. In other words, two people, despite their seeming mutual contempt, can’t help but want the other, and, in the end, learn to care for each other.
