Sparky, get me back in this race!

If a film loses a metric shit ton of money at the box office, does that make it a bad movie?

Hell no.

We are not here to dunk on films that couldn't bring in the benjamins.

In fact, we want to lift some movies up and say “ What were people thinking!?”

Here are our picks for some of the best box office bombs of all time.

BUDGET: $120,000,000 EARNINGS: $43,000,000 TOTAL LOSS: 111 million (est)

This film directed by Lily & Lana Wachowski is a movie about, well, speed racing.

it’s also about artists at the height of their careers having to live up to the expectations that others place on them.

While the whole industry is arguing about your future you just want to make art and by making art we mean driving fast cars fast.

This is a story that relates very closely to the lives and careers of its filmmakers.

Lily and Lana got their big break in 1999 when they made “The Matrix” (ever heard of it) and since then they have just made what they want to make.

Even though the whole world is screaming at them to make what we think they should make, they are unrelenting in their passion to tell earnest, heartfelt stories like this one.

We tend to shy away from showing you the climax of a film, but exceptions must be made when you’re talking about Speed Racer.

This scene is the culmination and conclusion of the final set piece when the question turns from whether or not our high-octane prodigy, Speed, will he be able to win, to how he will win.

It is a perfect example of subjective storytelling, depicting the euphoria of accomplishment, and flexing one's greatest and most personal talent through hard work and support from those who love you most.

It’s beautiful, enthralling, and has me on the brink of tears just writing about it.
